Browsing Posts in Technology

The Merlin Show | Thirty theoretically productive frames per second is a new video podcast where Merlin Mann does interviews, gives tips, and generally expounds his productivity philosophy. The interviews so far have been insightful. I very much enjoy his summary wrapups where he explains what one might have learned from the interview.

Battery technology has not kept up wit our power-hungry electronic devices. Laptops barely get a few hours of life with current technology. I predict two technologies will help get us to the point where we can go at least a day (the practical minimum) between charges: 1) flash drives – as capacity goes up they [...]

BubbleShare is a photo sharing website. I’ve tried various others including shutterfly, photoclub, and flickr but this is my current favourite. I especially like the range of “links” they provide to albums including embedded slide shows that you can paste into your own website or blog. Check out my photos page for examples.

Windows Vista is out and the lack of enthusiasm is pretty great. Very few people are upgrading. I know that I am not. Unlike past OS releases this is unlikely to provide a big boost to Microsoft sales. The argument on the other side says that they will sell lots of copies to buyers of [...]

Launchy is a utility for Windows that launches programs using keyboard commands. It is like Quicksilver for the Mac. It saves me a lot of time and I highly recommend it. In its most basic form, it indexes the applications in the Start Menu. You start it with a hotkey and then type in a [...]

However, I’m not interested in a 2 year commitment to Cingular. Please, Apple, release this product as a video iPod with its wifi and bluetooth allowing it to be [...]

You probably have to be a programmer to appreciate the programmer_hierarchy but if you are I think you will find it interesting. I have written programs in all of the 18 languages listed except ADA, Visual Basic (what, no Basic?), C#, and Ruby (and plan to do some Ruby in the near future) and I [...]

One of the most insightful blogs on the net is Techcrunch. Michael Arrington has connections throughout the industry and seems to get early access to all the new, hot companies. Combine that with an experienced eye for tech trends and the result is a great source of information.

I have not used Microsoft’s Zune but based on its features I can say that I never would buy or recommend one. One of the worst things I have ever heard: if you create your own music (for which you obviously own the copyright) and then share it using the Zune’s wifi, the Zune will [...]
