The Boston Globe’s top 50 list of the best Science Fiction TV shows of all time doesn’t cut it in my opinion.

Also their format stinks, making you click your way down the list instead of just presenting it all on one page.

Their top 10:

1. Star Trek (original)
2. Battlestar Galactica (New)
3. Star Trek: The Next Generation
4. The X-Files
5. Babylon 5
6. Stargate SG-1
7. The Twilight Zone
8. Dr. Who
9. Mystery Science Theater 3000
10. Sliders

some other notables:

11. Lost
12. Xena: Warrior Princess
17. Firefly
19. Dark Angel
25. The Jetsons
29. The Six Million Dollar Man
30. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
32. My Favorite Martian
34. The Avengers
38. Batman
39. The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
40. The Thunderbirds
48. 3rd Rock From The Sun
49. The Wild Wild West

First of all, I don’t agree with their definition of Science Fiction. Including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Lost, Xena, etc. discredits the list from the get go.

If they’re going to stretch the definition to include shows with science fiction-like gadgets (like Man from UNCLE and the Avengers) then is their low ranking based on the low sci-fi content?

As far as shows go, my favourite on their list is The Wild Wild West but I don’t think I would call it science fiction.

I do like the new Battlestar Gallactica. However, of all the various Star Trek series I would rank the original near the bottom except for “camp” value. And if you’re going in that direction I would rank the Jetsons, My Favorite Martian, and Batman higher.

The other two shows that I would rank a lot higher are Firefly and Dark Angel.
