It’s a nice try but placeopedia didn’t get it quite right. It’s a mashup of google maps and wikipedia.

I think these 2 services go well together but the way I would do it is:

wikipedia -> google maps: this direction already exists (in experimental form). Entries (e.g. cities) with specific locations (look for the latitude and longitude) link to a page on an external server (for now) that offers interfaces with different mapping sites including google maps.

google maps -> wikipedia: using the google map interface, pin points are placed everywhere that there is a wikipedia entry. Information on the pin point names the geographic entry with a link to the corresponding wikipedia article.
